When I tell people about what I do, I often hear things like; "I am not creative at all", "I just don't have the time" , "I would love to be able to scrapbook". If you have the desire to scrapbook, you can make to happen. Read on... three common scrapbooking myths are about to be BUSTED!
Scrapbooking Myth #1: There's no time to scrapbook. Scrapping doesn't require more time than you are willing to give to yourself for other activities (like exercise or the spa), it just requires scheduling. Most retail stores post their scrapbooking times 2 to 3 months in advance.
Independent consultants offer workshops as well and will likely have their schedules prepared 4 to 6 months in advance. My friend, Jackie, only scrapbooks twice a year - at weekend retreat events an independent consultant runs. Jackie knows 6 months in advance when the next retreat will happen and works her family calendar around it. She is able to remain up to date with her photo projects by simply making the most of these two opportunities. In my experience, busy people get things done - because of planning.
Scrapbooking Myth #2: You have to be creative to make a scrapbook style photo album. Putting photos into safe albums is mostly about preserving the memories & stories that the photos represent. Some of my favorite album pages are 'naked'. They lack any stickers or embellishments whatsoever. I love pages like this because they celebrate the memories. Digital scrapbooking and pre-designed layouts make things easier. Just add pictures and your words and you have a beautiful page!
Scrapbooking Myth #3: Scrapbooks are for families with kids. As long as you are taking pictures, kids or no kids, there's plenty to work on! Look at your pictures, aren't they worthy of celebration? It's time to show off your exciting life! Celebrate your everyday, your family and friends. Your story is worth telling and sharing, putting these stories and memories into a safe album is a great way to do this! Now that you know how to bust these myths, it is time to get started. Find a few pictures, find some friends or some help from a store or consultant and celebrate your memories.

How are you spending this rainy Sunday? I'd be stamping or scrapping if I were home, but instead am enjoying some lovely quiet time with my parents in Hull, Mass...they watched the girls while my husband and I went out for a post ST Patrick's Day party. I have some great samples to show you when I return to my home computer tomorrow, promise!

Friday evening I am going to do a workshop for a very special cause...the Kuck Collegiate Cycling Scholarship. Joshua Kuck (pronounced cook) died in October 2008 in a bicycling accident in Floriday, his mother is a teacher where I work and has been working with the folks at the USACDF in raising money for a scholarship in his honor.
Pru, Josh's mom, is a wonderful baker and stamper - and we're making bag toppers and baggies for upcoming bake sales!
But being that we're all teachers, I thought I'd highlight this great stamp set - Teacher's Pet...
This is called a hinge card...I saw this somewhere and had to make it, and had a ball with the new Pink Flamingo designer series paper and white organza ribbon! Kind of cute and still elegant at the same time!
Stamps: A Good Egg
Inks: Basic Black
Paper: Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, So Saffron, Pink Flamingo DSP
Accessories: White Organza Ribbon, Bold Brights Brad.
Faux anything is good...fake it til you make it I have heard said many times!
Today's tutorial is Faux Dry Embossing!
Now there are fun ways to dry emboss for real, but this sample shows how to use a punch and some cardstock to make it look dry embossed...
This is an 81/2 by 81/2 scrapbook page for the memory album I gave Joe. I love this pic of him on my brother's boat last summer. Can you see the texture on the background? I used the Large Star Punch and punched the same color as the page (Bordering Blue) and scattered them over the page. Actually scattering isn't exactly what I did - I have learned to make triangles with the images to balance and that's what I did.
The Designer Series Paper along the side is from a retired Simply Scrappin Kit, as are the brackets in the title.
Stamps: Wonderful Favorites
Ink: Basic Black
Paper: Bordering Blue, Whisper White
Accessories: Vintage Brads, Large Star Punch, Winter Retreat Simply Scrappin Kit (ret).
I had so much fun with the ladies at the Saco Scrappin and Stampin Getaway. We laughed like fools Saturday night, ok, maybe that was just me...but there was a whole lot of scrappin and stampin goin' on!
What happens at the SSSG stays at the SSSG, but I HAVE to share these pics...
Guess we had some serious scrappers and stampers, huh? I think there were clothes in there somewhere - lol!
My major projects included an album for my husband, his birthday is days after McKenna's, April 21st - if you know Joe make sure you tell him I said his birthday was the 21st, I had a couple of years where I swore it was the 20th, not sure why!
Here is the cover, I used the Onboard Album, 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 and a Simply Scrappin Kit that was retired in January -
The OUR is chipboard lots of letters, stamped in versamark and then embossed with Black Embossing Powde...the family memories letters were included in the kit.
This is going to be displayed May 16th at the Album in a Day Class, more details are coming soon!
until Easter Sunday that is... McKenna wanted to know if the bunny was coming tonight as I brought down decorations from the attic. She is excited because she knows after Easter comes her birthday... being 4 is so much fun!
You still have time to order supplies to make fun cards, gifts, and decorations for Easter AND receive Sale A Bration gifts, too! Here is one more sneak peek for Saturday's Easter Stamp Camp -
There is still room Saturday morning at 9 and then again Wednesday April 1 (yep, April Fools Day!), but register soon because space is limited!
Stay tuned tomorrow for some scrapbook pages from the Saco Scrappin and Stampin Getaway - next one is November 6, 7, and 8th!
I am here at the Saco Scrappin and Stamin Getaway and looking over what I have been able to accomplish so far...finish most of the invitations for Rebecca's Bat Mitvah, my daughter McKenna's birthday invitations, and a secret for my husband's birthday in April-Our Family Memories Scrapbook! Using one of the Simply Scrappin Kits, a package of Whisper White cardstock, and a chipboard album you can create an album in a day! I am in the planning stage of an Album in a Day class, keep posted.
